“Painting with Light – A Nature Photography Experience” was blessed with beautiful weather for nine field trips to 11 different areas this spring (2015). Each session consisted of a leisurely, two-hour photo-walk. During the next week participants shared their photographs – and commented on them – in a Facebook Group open only to members of the study group.
By the last walk there were about 500 photos online and each member was asked to pick from their own shots two favorites, with an option of choosing a third picture that included fellow members of the group. Some added comments about why they choose the photos, etc. Their choices, in alphabetical order by photographer, are at the bottom of this page.
The group visited Gooseberry Island, Westport twice, once to see the sunset and full-moon rise nearly simultaneously. Also visited were Cornell Farm, Parsons Reserve, Destruction Brook Woods, and Allens Pond in Dartmouth; Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuary in Norfolk, Wollomonopoag Conservation Area in Wrentham, and Sachuest National Wildlife Sanctuary inMiddletown, RI. In Little Compton RI the group walked Dundery Brook boardwalk, out to Bumblebee Pond, and concluded with a tour of Simmons Mill Management Area.
Greg Stone was the study group leader and he will offer a similar experience this fall (2015) called “Photography in the Golden Hour,” only this time four of the planned sessions will start before dawn and four close to dusk. The emphasis will be on these nature photography “golden hours” using nearby location that offer pleasing views of the sunrise or sunset.
